On November 4th, there will be a screening of the film “The Innermost Man”, dedicated to the memory of Andrey Platonov, followed by a Q&A discussion with the director Roma Liberov.

Roma Liberov is the director of films about Brodsky, Ilf and Petrov, Olesha, Dovlatov, and the author of numerous literary projects. In “The innermost Man”, he combines Platonov’s biography with cinematic fantasies based on his works and notebooks. It’s a story of the creation and destruction of a new world in seven days, where the great communist dream shattered against the tense construction of a totalitarian world.

The cast includes well-known actors such as Anatoly Bely, Timofey Tribuntsev, and members of Brusnikin’s Workshop. The soundtrack features Soviet songs performed by Shortparis frontman Nikolay Komyagin and Alexandra Kutman (former singer of Jack Wood), the trumpet of the legendary Vyacheslav Gayvoronsky, the virtuoso violin of Boris Kipnis, and the existential anthems of Grazhdanskaya Oborona.

The film is about a brilliant 20th-century writer, whose works have been studied in depth but remain largely misunderstood.

The story is based on Platonov’s biography, presented in Liberov’s characteristic collage technique: live-action episodes alternate with documentary footage, animation with object and shadow theatre, and the visuals are intertwined with computer graphics, overlaid with voices, melodies, and songs.
